Commissioning Supervisor - Battery Energy Storage Systems
Contract Position | Multiple US Locations | 12 Months | Remote + Travel
Overview
Our client is a leading energy solutions company and one of the world's largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) developers. We're seeking an experienced Commissioning Supervisor to join their team and oversee critical commissioning operations across multiple project sites.
In this role, you'll act as the Owner's representative, managing the delivery, installation, quality assurance, testing, and startup of state-of-the-art battery energy storage and solar-coupled power systems. This is a high-impact position where your expertise directly influences project success and grid reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee subcontractors and OEM delivery, installation, and quality assurance across BESS projects
- Manage plant testing, performance testing, ISO/GIA/PPA testing, and system startup operations
- Act as Owner's representative for site work, installation oversight, and safety compliance
- Monitor construction turnover, pre-energization activities, and commissioning workflows
- Conduct comprehensive quality control inspections and performance validation testing
- Manage status reporting, documentation, and project closeout procedures
- Support remote SCADA monitoring and commissioning portfolio management
- Coordinate with EPC contractors and vendors on behalf of the project owner
Required Qualifications
- 6-10 years of professional experience in power systems commissioning
- Minimum 100MW-hr or 5+ energy storage projects in your background
- Engineering or professional electrical career foundation
- Experience overseeing EPC contractors and OEM vendors
- Strong knowledge of BESS installation, testing, and commissioning protocols
- Familiarity with ISO/GIA/PPA testing procedures
- Excellent project management and communication skills
- Willingness to travel up to 75% (based at project locations for commissioning duration)
- Remote work capability for portfolio management and SCADA support
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with solar-coupled or hybrid energy storage systems
- SCADA system monitoring experience
- Background in construction turnover and pre-energization protocols
- Project management certification (PMP or equivalent)
- Understanding of utility-scale energy storage regulations and standards
